The fair will be back soon in mid-July, and amidst the little ones on rides, livestock competitions and not-inexpensive fried treats, will be the mud bogging completion. The goal of mud bogging is not to get your vehicle bogged down in a deep mud pit, but to find your way through it to the other side.
So, mud bogging is kind of a metaphor for life itself. But also a chance to see powerful machines get down and dirty as drivers of different skills vie to be king of the mud pile. It’s a competition perfect for any little country boy’s imagination–or country-boy-at-heart.
That’s not to make light of this enduring passion that has captured the attention of thousands upon thousands of Americans since at least the 1970’s. Wikipedia goes into more detail regarding the evolution of the unique motorsport of mud bogging.
